A CAR fire spread to fencing, wheelie bins and a bike shed in Bridgwater – prompting a block of flats to be evacuated.
Firefighters from the town, and a crew from Taunton, were sent to the scene at around 3.24pm yesterday (April 29) after reports of a vehicle on fire “next to a block of flats”.
“One fire engine was initially sent, however due to the number of 999 calls and reports of the fire spreading, a second fire engine was also sent to assist,” a Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said.
“On arrival, crews confirmed this vehicle was well alight and was close to a block of flats.
“The flats were evacuated as a precaution, while the crews extinguished the fire using two hose reel jets and two sets of breathing apparatus.”
They added: “This was a car fire that spread to some fencing, wheelie bins and bike shed. The cause of the fire was accidental.”
