Fire damages bungalow, garage, three vehicles and caravan in Crewkerne

A FIRE in Crewkerne destroyed a garage, caravan and damaged a bungalow – with two people suffering smoke inhalation.

Two crews were initially sent to the blaze in a caravan on a driveway at around 1.40am on Sunday morning (January 12).

However, they called for support as the fire spread to the roof of a nearby bungalow, and a further fire engine and aerial ladder platform were also dispatched.

“On arrival, crews confirmed this caravan was well alight and it had also spread to the garage and roof space of a bungalow,” a Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said.

“Crews requested further assistance, so another two fire engines were sent.”

Overnight and into the daylight hours, crews extinguished the fire using nine sets of breathing apparatus, three hose reel jets, two main jets and two thermal image cameras.

“The caravan was totally destroyed by fire, along with three motor vehicles, a garage and the bungalow,” the spokesperson added.

“Two people suffered smoke inhalation and were treated on scene by paramedics. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.”
