A VILLAGE near Weston-super-Mare will see a road closure next month as the final stages of a road safety scheme gets underway.
Work is starting today (November 19) to introduce a 20mph speed limit across most of Yatton and install traffic calming measures, with work expected to be completed before Christmas.
20mph speed limit signs will be installed across the village from 9.30am to 3.30pm, while work to complete the the raised speed tables and road markings as part of the the road safety improvementswill take place during the night between 8pm and 6am to minimise disruption.
Noisier operations will be completed by 11pm.
A three-night closure of the High Street High Street between Arnolds Way and Claverham Road will be needed to facilitate the road safety improvements.
This is currently scheduled to take place for the nights of December 18 to 20. Access will be maintained from either side of the closure for residents.
The work is part of North Somerset Council and Yatton Parish Council’s plan to improve safety for people who walk and cycle between North End and Yatton village centre, which includes pupils travelling to school.
The work follows other improvements already introduced including footway widening, a raised zebra crossing and kerb realignment near Barberry Farm Road.
The 20mph scheme will be the 29th introduced since 2000 with recent zones including Hutton, Wrington, Uphill, Nailsea, Clevedon (The Beach / Hill Road area), Weston (Baker Street) and Pill and Easton-in-Gordano.
A further 20mph is also planned for Kenn following consultation with residents this autumn.
