DOZENS of vehicles were destroyed in a fire in Bridgwater last night.
Firefighters were sent to the scene, in the Hamp area, at around 11.15pm after reports of black smoke coming from the site.
“On arrival, crews confirmed multiple vehicles well alight,” a Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said.
Extra crews were sent to the scene, they said, with teams from Taunton, Bridgwater, Burnham-on-Sea, Street and Martock joining the effort.
At around 1am, firefighters were still battling the blaze, with water being taken from the Bridgwater and Taunton Canal.
And at 2am, crews were “damping down hotspots” before declaring the fire extinguished at just after 3am.
“There was at total of 39 vehicles totally destroyed by the fire and the cause of the fire is being investigated,” the spokesperson added.
