Detailed plans for 161 new homes on the outskirts of Wellington submitted

PLANS for 161 new homes as part of the Longforth Farm development in Wellington have been submitted.

Outline planning for this part of the overarching 900-home scheme gave permission for up to 200 dwellings on the site, north of Taunton Road and Lillebonne Way.

Now, detailed plans for the development have been submitted to Somerset Council by Carney Sweeney on behalf of Bloor Homes.

The plans propose 161 open-market homes, as well as a play area and ‘residential square’, as well as internal roads.

Homes at the site would be three- and four-bedroom properties of two- and 2.5-storeys.

“The appearance of the dwellings have been designed to complement the traditional character of Wellington, with three-character areas drawing upon the Taunton Garden Town placemaking principles,” the plans said, with streets “designed to have active frontages, with public open spaces”.

The application went: “A range of house types and architectural detailing is proposed to provide variety and richness to the streetscape.”

It added: “The scheme proposes to incorporate the provision of public open space, green corridors, and tree-lined streets to create a pleasant and green residential environment.”

We need more Drs surgeries, NHS dentist and schools before any more housing is built. Try to think of the residents already here before more new homes – a bit of thought would go a long way.
