A DERELICT former mill building in Wellington could be demolished to make way for nine new homes, if plans are approved.
Rackham Planning has submitted plans for Haymans Mill, at Westford, on behalf of PYL.
“The proposal includes the demolition of the existing building which is in a state of complete dilapidation and its replacement with nine dwellinghouses,” the application said.
“Each house will have a dedicated garden area, car parking, cycle storage and refuse storage. There will also be visitor parking and cycle parking.”

The site neighboured other residential developments and would see brownfield land brought back into use.
“The site makes best use of previously developed land that has been left derelict for over 10 years, thus providing much needed housing in an area which is already established as a suitable area for residential use, while also making the most of an underdeveloped brownfield site,” it added.
The proposals would see three blocks of houses built, as well as a dedicated parking area and open space.
Access would come from Rackfield, an unadopted road, via an existing junction.
The scheme will now be considered by council planners. For more details, and to comment, log on to somerset.gov.uk and search reference 43/24/0064.

This will do nothing to ease the traffic situation along Payton Road which has no pavement and is used by MANY children walking to school. The application has been denied twice already. And nothing has changed access wise.
It is not feasible in my view to build a new development where there is restricted road width. I walk that road most days with our dogs and often go onto what verge there is when oncoming vehicles come round two corners . No doubt Rackfield will be playing dodgem cars !
