Darts sensation Justin Hood marches into Somerset-heavy quarter finals

SOMERSET darts sensation Justin Hood continued his fairytale story on the oche at the PDC World Championships with a dazzling performance to make the quarter finals – and a guaranteed £100,000 prize.

The Weston-based slinger has proved a favourite among fans at Ally Pally during his debut run at the tournament, which has seen him defeat several big names on his way to the last eight.

After a 4-1 win over 11th seed Josh Rock, 32-year-old Hood said he hoped one day to open a Chinese restaurant with his darts winnings, and that he had “never experienced anything like it” while on stage at the London venue.

“To have people chanting your name like that and being on your side like that is an amazing feeling. Long may it continue,” the Somerset thrower – previously ranked 86th in the world – said.

Next up for Hood is Gary Anderson – a world champion in 2015 and 2016 – who triumphed over Michael van Gerwen, setting up an all-Somerset match, as Anderson is based in Burnham-on-Sea.

Elsewhere at Ally Pally, Wellington-based Ryan Searle takes the stage today (December 31) against fifth seed Jonny Clayton, with Anderson and Hood following to complete the afternoon session – with three of four players based in Somerset.

Searle, seeded 20th in the championships, has lost just 11 legs so far in London, and will be taking part in his first PDC World Championship quarter final.

Whatever the outcomes today, Somerset is guaranteed at least one semi-finalist, with the last four set to meet on Friday evening (January 2).
