Community projects in Wiveliscombe handed almost £100,000 in grants

ALMOST £100,000 in grants have been handed to organisations in Wiveliscombe.

Wiveliscombe Town Council (WTC) has awarded money from developers and from council funds to four community groups for a range of projects.

The grants, approved at a meeting on Monday evening (October 20), were:
* Wivey Pool: up to £30,000 to kit out an accessible public toilet in the new pool building, to provide an all-year facility to everyone using the Rec.
* Community Centre: up to £10,000 to renew the pointing on an outside wall to cure internal damp and thus keep the building in tip-top condition for its high level of use.
* Wiveliscombe Town Hall Trust: up to £42,500 for repairs to the ceiling, to provide a chair-lift to improve accessibility, redecorate the stairway and install a water supply, toilet and kitchen – all to improve the building as a venue for town events.
* Wivey Link: £3,000 to help provide Community Transport.

“The money for the first three grants comes from the levy paid by builders when they put up new houses in the town,” a council spokesperson said. “The fourth grant is funded from the general town council budget.

“Overall, these grants are examples of the town council using its resources to prioritise improvements to the facilities of the town and the wellbeing of its residents.”
