A GROUP of churches in Somerton is planning an unusual way to mark Good Friday – and wants members of the public to join them.
St Cleers, St Dunstans, St Michaels and All Angels, The Life Church and West Street Church – collectively known as Somerton Churches Together – are encouraging people to join a gathering at Gasson’s Field on April 3.
At 3pm, the group is hoping 100 people or more will join them to stand in the shape of a cross, which will then be photographed from the air.
“Traditionally on Good Friday, Somerton Churches Together meet for a Walk of Witness,” a spokesperson said.
“This year, on April 3 at 3pm, we are asking all of Somerton to join us at Gasson’s Lane field where we will be forming a cross by standing together.
“Shortly after assembling, an aeroplane with an aerial photographer on board will fly over and take a couple of photos of us all.
“So, if you are keen to be part of this event whether it is just to form a cross and want your photo taken, or you have never been to church and are curious, or used to go to church and haven’t been for a while, or go to church sometimes, or go to church regularly – you all are welcome.
“At least 100 people area needed on the field to make the plane take off.
“To keep us going and a reminder of the day, we are also pleased to say that those lovely people from Burns the Bread have agreed to sponsor the event by donating a hot cross bun for every participant.”
