DOG lovers are preparing for a special celebration as the Ham Hill Dog Show marks its 10th anniversary.
The event, set to run from 10am on Sunday, August 11, celebrates canine companions through a range of activities and attractions.
Set against the backdrop of Ham Hill Country Park, itself popular with dog walkers from the surrounding area and way beyond, organisers promise “a day to celebrate our wonderful canine companions and the joy they bring us”.
“Dogs of all shapes and sizes, pedigrees and crossbreeds are welcome to put their best paw forward,” a spokesperson said.
“Whether your dog is full of waggyness, cuteness, energy, or even sometimes a little grumpiness, there will be something for them and you to enjoy.”
Last year, more than 400 visitors visited the show, while raising funds for charity The Friends of Ham Hill.
Volunteer event organiser, Donna McNeill, said: “As ever, we are very excited to be hosting the Ham Hill dog show. It is always such a joyous day that it is full of fun and love for dogs.
“When we started this event in 2014, we had no idea of the support we would receive from the local community or how popular it would be.
“Now an established highlight in the local calendar, we are back for our 10th Anniversary year and determined to do it justice.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming new faces as well as our ever-increasing band of regulars, who always make us smile.
“It’s great to see so many proud owners all keen to show off their dogs’ talents, character, beauty, quirks and charm.”
The show features 12 fun classes and other dog-based challenges, as well as a display by the Yeovil Agility Club, stalls and al-fresco refreshments.

Somerset Councillor Federica Smith Roberts, lead member for communities, housing and culture, said: “Ham Hill dog show is a fantastic way for families to enjoy the outdoors, celebrate their dogs, have fun, and socialise with other dogs and owners.
“It’s also a great opportunity for Somerset Council to promote responsible dog walking at this important Iron Age hill fort site.
“Special thanks go to our volunteer organisers Donna and Sarah, whose dedication and hard work make this event possible every year.
“Their efforts raise valuable funds for the Friends of Ham Hill, helping preserve and enhance this much-loved place.”
Meanwhile, sponsors are still being sought for a number of classes, which costs £30.
“We welcome local businesses and services or you may be a family who would like to honour a canine friend or late member of the family who loved Ham Hill,” the spokesperson added.
“All class sponsors will be printed in the programme and acknowledged over the PA system at the start of each class.”
If you would like to sponsor a class or can help with doggy prizes to go in goody bags, email Hamhilldogshow@gmail.com.
There is free on-site parking available and entry on the day costs £1.50 per dog, per class, payable on entry to the show ring. Owners are urged to remember poo bags and to be aware there are no litter bins at Ham Hill.
