LONG Ashton residents will be able to vote for a new representative at an upcoming by-election.
The poll, provisionally on November 13, will elect a replacement for North Somerset Councillor for the area following the resignation of Green Party member, Stuart McQuillan.
Mr McQuillan has stood down as he is moving out of the area, having served on NSC since 2019.
“It has been a privilege to represent the residents of Long Ashton, Leigh Woods, Wraxall and Failand on North Somerset Council since 2019 when I was first elected,” he said.
“However, as my family and I will shortly be leaving North Somerset, I have taken the difficult decision to resign from the council.

“I am grateful to all the residents that have supported me, given me feedback and helped me over the years. I also want to thank all the officers who have helped me solve problems and help residents.
“Finally, I am proud to have been part of a cross-party administration and to have worked with members from all parties and none to deliver for the communities of North Somerset.”
The resignation has come into immediate effect, and until the election of a new councillor, fellow ward councillor for Long Ashton, Cllr Ash Cartman, will handle matters for the ward.
