A FLAT in Burnham-on-Sea was badly damaged by fire yesterday (January 15).
Firefighters were sent to the scene, in College Street, at 2.25pm after reports a property was on fire.
Two engines from the town were initially sent to the incident, with a third crew then sent from Bridgwater.
“Once in attendance, crews confirmed one property well alight and sent a ‘Make Pumps 5’ assistance message to control,” a Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said.
“Crews sent two further appliances from Bridgwater and Cheddar, one incident command unit from Street and two supporting officers.”
At 4.45pm, firefighters said the blaze was out and had involved “an open fire place within a ground floor lounge”.
“There was 90% fire damage and 100% smoke damage to the lounge with the remainder of the property 80% smoke damaged,” they added.
