Work officially underway on new Bridgwater Carnival cart-building site

WORK is officially underway on a multi million-pound project to create a new, state-of-the-art cart-building site for Bridgwater Carnival.

Contractors Rigg Construction have started work on the first phase of the project, in Bristol Road.

This phase will see five modern workshops with heating, lighting and running water, created in what chiefs called “a huge boost for the eight BGFC clubs who build their carts on the site”.

Carnival project lead, Chris Hocking, said the new facilities will give clubs a “safe, practical space to continue creating the world-class carts that make our carnival so special”.

“One new workshop will also house a meeting space and a display of historic artefacts for public viewing,” they added.

Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival president, Dave Creedy, thanked all supporters, calling the investment “a lifeline for the future of carnival”.

And Bridgwater Mayor, Cllr Kathy Pearce, praised the project, highlighting Carnival’s huge role in town life.
