THE shortlist of entries for the naming of new gritters set to hit Somerset roads this winter has been revealed – and there are some great suggestions.

School pupils across the county were asked to submit their ideas for names for the new vehicles, part of the Somerset Council and Keir fleet.

Now, social media users are being asked to vote for their two favourites from a shortlist of six, which are:

• Gritney Spears
• Ever-grit-ch Explorer
• True Grit
• Grit-asaurus
• Salty the Snowman
• Basil Salty

Votes should be cast by 5pm on Christmas Eve.

It comes after last year saw Gritty Gritty Bang Bang and Spready Mercury roll out on to Somerset roads following suggestions by county school children.
