Aldi unveils plan for new £7 million store in Wellington

BUDGET supermarket giant Aldi has unveiled plans for a new £7 million store in Wellington.

The chain has announced plans for a new branch near the Chelston Roundabout, south of the A38.

A spokesperson said the store “will improve access to Aldi’s award-winning range of high-quality, low-cost products: improving customer choice, while reducing the need to travel to supermarkets further afield”.

“If approved, the plans would provide up to 40 new jobs, paid at an industry leading rate,” an Aldi spokesperson said.

“The closest Aldi store to the site is currently in Taunton, nearly six miles from the proposed site.

“A new store will improve access to Aldi’s range of products for people in Wellington and the surrounding areas: reducing the need to travel further afield.”

Residents are now being encouraged to have their say over the plans via an online portal, with their views being used to put together a formal planning application, which will then be submitted to Somerset Council.

“This will play a vital role in shaping the planning application we submit to Somerset Council in the subsequent months,” the spokesperson added.
