Work to repair coach crash road in West Somerset to start next month

WORK to repair a section of road on Exmoor that saw a tragic coach crash last year is due to begin next month.

On July 17 last year, 10-year-old Oliver Price sadly passed away after a coach left the A396 at Cutcombe Hill, between Wheddon Cross and Timberscombe.

Now, Somerset Council has confirmed work to repair a section of the road will get underway on February 9.

The route will be closed between 7pm and 7am each day, with the work set to take around three weeks.

“Temporary traffic signals are currently in operation, and these will remain in place outside of working times to protect the site and for public safety,” a council spokesperson said.

Working hours on site are aimed at avoiding disruption to the Snowdrop Valley event, set to held between January 24 and February 22.

“Advance signage will be in place at the site two weeks before the works begin to inform the travelling public,” the spokesperson added.

“If works complete sooner than estimated, the road will be reopened.”
