Three weeks of roadworks on main Weston route to start next week

WORK to upgrade traffic lights in Weston-super-Mare starts next week – with temporary signals being installed for around three weeks.

The roadworks, in New Bristol Road at the junction with Station Road, get underway on Monday (August 4).

It is part of North Somerset Council’s (NSC) 15-year replacement programme and the traffic signal controller, signal heads, poles, cabling and any other ancillary equipment will be upgraded.

Two additional pedestrian crossing points will also be installed at the junction.

During the work, temporary lights will be in place, installed by contractor Yunex Traffic.

Cllr Hannah Young, cabinet member with responsibility for roads at the council, said: “This is a busy junction in Weston and we appreciate the project will cause some delays particularly at peak times.

“We are committed to improving the infrastructure of our road network and ensuring our traffic signals are maintained effectively is a key part of this.

“We are also installing two new crossings points to improve safety for those using this popular junction.

“We would like to thank people for their patience while these essential works are completed.”
