EAST Street in Taunton for five days for electricity work and drainage improvements.
Somerset Council said the work would see the busy town centre route shut to traffic from 8am on Monday (January 19) until Friday, January 23 for “urgent work”.
The full closure will come after two short stints of work on “safety repairs” at pedestrian crossings in Taunton town centre on Friday evening (January 16).
The first will take place in Corporation Street, opposite Boston Tea Party, with the road closed from 7pm for around two hours.
Then, a crossing opposite TK Maxx in East Street will shut from around 8pm until 9pm.
The full closure will then get underway on January 19, with East Street “closed to vehicles 24/7 for essential utility works including new electricity, water, drainage etc at 61 East Street, preparing the site for new businesses”.
“Pedestrian access will remain open,” a Somerset Council spokesperson said.
The work comes before resurfacing work gets underway in East Street and Corporation Street in early February.
