Roadworks extended on busy Bridgwater route due to Storm Benjamin

ROADWORKS which have closed a busy Bridgwater road in the evening are taking longer than expected.

Somerset Council said completion of the work, on the A372 Westonzoyland Road and Eastern Avenue, was delayed due to “incoming Storm Benjamin”.

A spokesperson said the roadworks – which involved resurfacing the route – would be in place “a bit longer than first expected”.

“Works will now be taking place into the weekend with a closure in place from 6.30pm on Saturday (October 25) evening,” they added.

The route has been closed between 6.30pm and 11.30pm during the works, which got underway on October 13 in Eastern Avenue, due to be completed on October 20, and from October 17 to October 24 in Westonzoyland Road.

Announcing the work, lead member for transport and waste services at Somerset Council, Councillor Richard Wilkins, said: “The team will do their best to get the work completed as quickly and painlessly as possible – please do liaise with them if you are a resident and need to raise any issues around access.

“We are extremely grateful to residents for their support and understanding while this work is done.”
