Main Somerset road to close during half-term week for gas pipe roadworks

A MAIN Somerset road will be closed during the half term week as gas pipe upgrade work continues.

Wales & West Utilities has been working to upgrade gas pipes in the Langport Road area of Long Sutton.

Now, as part of the final section of work, Langport Road will be closed between the junctions of Burnt House Lane and Shute Lane from February 16 to 20.

The firm said a diversion route will be clearly signposted, with motorists advised to allow sufficient time for travel.

Wales & West Utilities’ Roxanne Whittaker is managing the work, and said: “This final section of work has been planned during the half term break to minimise disruption locally.

“We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.

“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of this community. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.

“This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport green gases in the future.”
