Main route in Weston to close overnight for roadworks this week

A MAIN route in Weston-Super-Mare will close for seven nights during resurfacing work.

The roadworks get underway today (January 20) in Locking Road, between the junctions of Ashcombe Road and Priory Road, and will see the route closed between 8pm and 6am on weekdays.

“During works, parking restrictions will be put in place indicated by yellow cones,” a North Somerset Council spokesperson said.

“There will not be on street parking available during construction.

“Traffic marshals will be on site to assist road users and advise on diversion routes. Please consider the closure when planning your journeys.”

Bus users are warned X1, X5 and A3 services will be affected by the works, the buses will divert to use the A370 via Hutton Moor Road and Locking Moor Road.

Stafford Road, Langford Road, Birchwood Avenue, Labernum Road, Chesham Road South, and Saville Road bus stops will not be served during the closure.

For the X5, the trip to Portishead at 5.40am will be the only time affected within the closure period.

Cllr Hannah Young, executive member for highways and transport, said: ”These works are essential to improve the surface and prolong the life of Locking Road, a key route in and out of Weston town centre.

“These works will cause some disruption, but we are trying to keep this to the minimum necessary and ask people to be patient and understanding while the project is completed.”

The work will be completed by Wainwright, the council’s resurfacing contractor and residents most directly affected by the scheme will receive a letter through their door.
