Main Bridgwater road to close to fix “safety issue”

A MAJOR Bridgwater road will close for two hours tomorrow night (August 27).

Somerset Council said the A38 Taunton Road will shut from 8pm to allow a “safety issue” to be “fixed quickly”.

“Tomorrow, Wednesday, August 27, the A38 Taunton Road in Bridgwater will be closed from 8pm for about two hours,” a council spokesperson said.

“This is so a safety issue can be fixed quickly.”

While the road will be closed, the footpath will stay open.

“Thanks for your patience,” the spokesperson added.

A diversion will be in place via Showground Road and Squibbers Way for drivers using the route.

Meanwhile, two bridges crossing the M5 near Bridgwater are also set to close for urgent repairs.

The bridges, in Bath Road (A39) and Westonzoyland Road (A372), will shut between 8pm and 6pm tonight (August 27), Thursday and Friday (August 28 and 29).

It comes after National Highways inspections revealed “defects” that meant experts were “not comfortable with traffic driving over due to the increased safety risk this will present”.
