DRIVERS on the recently-dualled A303 might have noticed an error.
No, nothing to do with the road itself, but instead in the signage informing drivers of the new layout, junctions and more.
Now, as they approach the former Sparkford roundabout heading south, drivers are told the junction will take them to a place called ‘Sherbourne’, as well as Sparkford and the A358.

Locals will know, of course, there is no such place in the vicinity. Rather, they are heading to ‘Sherborne’ (no ‘u’).
It may seem – and indeed is – a trivial thing.
However, National Highways are clearly a bit sensitive to the issue, as after your Leveller contacted them, the next day the sign appeared to have been altered, with a yellow sticker placed over the rogue ‘u’.
Now though, ‘Sherbourne’ is back, as you can see in our picture and dashcam video.
We’ve chased National Highways again to see if they have any comment.
UPDATE: We can clarify the efforts mentioned above at trying to amend the signs – one a little further along from that in our picture and video features the misplaced ‘u’ covered over. It repairs the spelling, but does look a little odd!
