CHANGES could be made at a busy crossroads near Radstock to improve safety.
MP Anna Sabine (Lib Dem, Frome & East Somerset) has raised residents’ concerns over the junction – at Terry Hill, Ammerdown – with Somerset Council, who said they are exploring changes at the interchange.
Following residents raising concerns over near misses and crashes at the site, Ms Sabine wrote to Somerset Council urging action to improve safety.
“Road safety is an ongoing worry across Frome and East Somerset, with many sites frequently documenting collisions and ‘near misses’,” she said.
“I am frequently contacted by residents who are concerned about junctions like the Terry Hill Crossroads and want to make sure that Somerset Council are taking proper measures to improve safety.”
Now, the council has confirmed the junction has been identified within its Road Safety Engineering programme, saying a key issue “appears to be drivers failing to give way to traffic travelling along the main A362 carriageway”.
Signage has been improved at the site, the council said, but further safety measures would be considered, including vehicle-activated warning signs to better alert drivers approaching the junction.
“I am very pleased that the council has committed to further investigation at this site and are taking these concerns seriously,” the MP added. “I look forward to continuing discussions with them to find a resolution.”
Lead member for transport and waste services, Councillor Richard Wilkins, said: “We are aware of the concerns of the community regarding this junction and are identifying a scheme to be part of a future road safety programme.
“We’ve had constructive discussions with the MP about this and are pleased to be working together on a potential solution at this challenging junction.”
