A BUSY North Somerset route is to close for four days this month, during “essential” tree works.
The work, on a section of the A38 near Sidcot School, will see the road closed between Oakridge Lane and Shipham Lanewill from Monday, January 12, between the hours of 9.30am and 3.30pm.
Diseased ash trees will be felled during the closures, with the closures needed as the work is urgent for “safety reasons”, including for cyclists, horse riders and pedestrians, as well as other vehicles.
No traffic will be allowed to pass in either direction when work is being carried out for the safety of the workforce and the public, the North Somerset Council said.

Cllr Mike Solomon, the council’s Executive member for culture, community services and safety, said: “Ash Dieback, caused by the fungus Hymenoscyphus fraxineus, is now widespread across Britain and poses a serious threat to our native ash trees.
“With up to 90% of ash trees at risk and no known cure, this disease is reshaping our landscapes. In North Somerset, we are working tirelessly to manage its effects and protect our environment for future generations.”
Diversion routes will be in place, with signs informing people of the alternative routes. Diversions and roadworks details in North Somerset are available online at one.network/uk/northsomerset.
