IN a real ‘only in Somerset’ moment, a busy road was closed this morning due to a large amount of manure being spilled on the route.

The B3151, near the junction with Horse Mill Lane, Somerton, was shut to vehicles at just after 10.10am after drivers reported a “significant amount of slurry” had spilled on the Tarmac.

That section of the B3151 features a downhill corner and, when combined with cold temperatures, could have posed a safety risk to drivers.

Police on the scene shut the road while it was cleared, which is understood to have been completed, with the help of the fire service and residents.

Somerset Council has also been informed of the incident, police said.

It is understood traffic is now passing through.
