A MUSEUM honouring the historic shoemaking history of Street will open in September, it has been confirmed.
Work on the Shoemakers Museum, next to the Clarks Village retail site, is progressing and the team behind the scheme have revealed it will open later this year.
“The brickwork needed a little time to perfect so Shoemakers Museum will now open its doors in September 2025,” a spokesperson said.
“The scaffolding has come down and stone colonades and glass windows are being fitted on the ground floor.
“The Grange refurbishment is creating beautiful new spaces for the shop, ticket area, community and education rooms.
“Inside the new building it is a tangle of wires, but it wont be long before each of these is discretely set in place, attached to display cases and interactives that show off the fabulous collections for everyone to enjoy.”
The museum promises to tell the story of centuries of shoemaking in the town, perhaps most famously known through the Clarks brand, which is headquartered in Street.
