Police at Castle Cary station ahead of Glastonbury Festival arrivals

POLICE have been out at Castle Cary station as the platforms prepare to receive thousands of Glastonbury Festival goers next week.

The station, which has undergone a major overhaul in recent years, is a hub for tens of thousands of travellers heading to nearby Worthy Farm, in Pilton, for the event, which runs from June 25 to 29.

Ahead of their arrival, Avon & Somerset Police has been running a Project Servator development – or operation – putting officers on the platforms to help, advise and prevent crime.

Speaking this week, a police spokesperson said: “Today it may not be too busy here but in a few days’ time we can expect a large number of festival goers to pass through this station and there will be officers around to help anyone that needs it.”

The officer said such operations “can happen at any time and help deter criminal activity”, and emphasised they are “not in response to any perceived threat”.

“We do them all year round, particularly for big events,” they added, saying police are also available “on site at Glastonbury, 24/7”.

“If you need us, you can speak to us, or speak to security on site,” they said. “We hope you have a wonderful time.”
