Early bin collections warning as Glastonbury Festival gets underway

PEOPLE in the east of Somerset are being warned to put their bins out early this week – as the Glastonbury Festival gets underway.

With hundreds of thousands of revellers making their way to Worthy Farm, Pilton, this week, Somerset Council crews will be out on their rounds early.

As a result, people in the east of the county are being urged to put their bins out for a 6am collection.

“The change comes to help teams to reach everyone while extra traffic is on Somerset’s road network due to the festival,” a council spokesperson said.

“From Tuesday (June 24) to Friday (June 27), residents in the former Mendip area of Somerset are asked to put their bins, boxes and bags out the night before they are due to be collected, or by 6am at the latest.

“The change in schedule should help to limit any disruption to recycling, rubbish or garden waste collections.”

Meanwhile, road users are reminded that that A361 between Glastonbury and Shepton Mallet will be busy between today (June 23) and next Monday (June 30).

“If you are not a resident or business in the immediate area please plan ahead,” they added.

Residents can report a missed waste collection online.
