ORGANISERS of a Somerset event celebrating the ancient art of scything are offering grants to green initiatives in the county.
Each year, the volunteer committee behind the Green Scythe Fair allocates grants to schemes using surplus income of the previous year’s event.
Ahead of the 2025 event, set to run from June 7 to 8 at Thorney Lakes Caravan and Camping Park, applications for grants has been opened. However, they are only open until March 31.
This year’s Green Scythe Fair features a full Saturday programme of workshops to learn new skills, including scything, crafts and sustainable living courses.
On Sunday is the fair itself, incorporating the West Country Scything Championships alongside an array of stalls and activities, including live music, performance, green information and workshops, campaigns, a Green Kidz area, the Community Tent with storytelling, and three bars selling local beers, ciders and apple juice, plus the Green Info Café and a variety local food and drinks stalls.
