THE Wellington Mayor and the town’s MP rolled up their sleeves as they helped to increase the tree coverage in the town.
3,000 trees are being planted in the 64 acres stretching from Tonedale to Rockwell Green, known as the Green Corridor, as part of the trust’s Woodland Creation Scheme.
This comes after Wellington Town Council entered into an ambitious agreement with the Woodland Trust.
Volunteers, which included Gideon Amos MP (Lib Dem/Taunton & Wellington) and the Wellington Mayor councillor Janet Lloyd, helped with the planting session in Great Meadow and Marsh Mead, just off Linden Drive.

Mr Amos said: “I was delighted to get involved in this wonderful community initiative.
“The Green Corridor is a beautiful area and it’s great to see all of the environmental work which is happening.
“If you can spare a few hours on a Saturday, I know the town council and Woodland Trust would be delighted to see you.”
There are two more planting days this month – on March 8 and March 22.
