Roads closed as flooding hits Somerset: full list

MOTORISTS are being urged to plan ahead if they are travelling today as several roads have closed across the county due to flooding caused by heavy rain.

The Met Office has today (January 27) issued a double yellow warning for wind and rain in Somerset.

The rain warning is in place until 10am tomorrow, January 28 and the wind warning is in place until 6am tomorrow.

Full list of road closures:

The following roads are closed according to Travel Somerset.

  • Foghamshire Lane to Gare Hill, Trudoxhill, Frome
  • Wellington Road, Rumwell, Taunton
  • Wallbridge Frome, Harris Close
  • Hollowell Hill West Chinnock
  • Holes Lane, Mells, Frome
  • Church Street, Yeovilton
  • Bridgehampton Road, Yeovilton
  • Eggwood Hill, Merriott, Merriott – Broadway junction with Merriott Road
  • Lopen road, Hinton S George
  • Camel Street, Marston Magna
  • Sutton Barn Offices, Frome
  • Holloway, Lopen, South Petherton (landslip)
  • A372, Somerton

The Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said crews have been “extremely busy with flooding incidents in the Somerset area throughout the night.”

In Somerton, 61 people and some pets were told to leave a residential park and taken to the rest centre at Edgar Hall. A small number of other residents were picked up by family members.
