People now need to book to visit North Somerset recycling centre

PEOPLE in North Somerset now have to book to drop of their waste at the Weston-super-Mare recycling centre.

From today (February 2), anyone wanting to visit the tip will need to book a time slot in advance.

The Weston site is the first centre in North Somerset to adopt the new scheme, which is set to be rolled out to Portishead and Backwell from March 2.

Officials say the new system is designed to make visits “faster, safer and more efficient for residents, while ensuring recycling centres can operate smoothly during busy periods and planned maintenance”.

Cllr Annemieke Waite, Cabinet member for planning and environment at the council, said: “Our aim is to make visiting the recycling centre as easy and efficient as possible for residents.

“Introducing a booking system helps restrict access to North Somerset residents only, reduce queues, cut unnecessary carbon emissions from idling vehicles, and make sure our sites are used safely and correctly.

“This brings us in line with neighbouring authorities who have already implemented successful booking systems, and we’re confident residents will see the benefits.”
