A 20MPH speed limit could be introduced in a North Somerset parish – with residents urged to have their say.
North Somerset Council is proposing to lower the limit in Kenn Street and Duck Lane “in order to provide a safer and more enjoyable environment for local communities”.
Kenn Street and Duck Lane currently have a speed limit of 30mph, though part of Kenn Street is subject to the national speed limit of 60mph.
Now, the council is proposing to install 20mph zones on both routes, as well as reducing the 60mph section to 40mph.
The Kenn 20mph zone would be the 29th scheme introduced since 2000, following zones in Hutton, Wrington, Uphill, Nailsea, Clevedon (The Beach/Hill Road area), Weston-super-Mare (Baker Street), Pill and Easton-in-Gordano.
The council now wants to hear from members of the public – particularly those who use Kenn Street and Duck Lane, as well as residents living on or near those roads, and businesses that may be impacted by the proposed changes.
Cllr Hannah Young, the council’s executive member with responsibility for active travel, said: “The 20mph zones are designed to help residents to feel safer walking and cycling so that more people can choose to travel sustainably.
“That’s good for health and wellbeing, helps to reduce local car journeys and supports the council’s commitment to be carbon neutral by 2030.
“By reducing the 60mph limit we also aim to create a safer environment for all road users outside the 20mph zones.”
Cllrs Steve Bridger and Wendy Griggs, ward members for Yatton, added: “We’re confident this scheme is supported by the community and are very pleased it has been prioritised.
“We’d encourage residents and local businesses to participate in the consultation and help shape the detail of the scheme.”

How come Stanshalls lane, Felton, no pavements, kids walk from school, blind bend, Taxis racing up and down is given a 30 mph limit ? Something is very wrong!!
Please do not do this! 30mph is fine in urban areas and there is no need to reduce the 60mph section.
Don’t do it! It doesn’t reduce emissions, it doesn’t save lives and it increases fuel consumption.

Money spent on reducing speed limits is a waste less than 10% of accidents are caused by exceeding posted speed limit, according to Avon and Somerset Police. What are they doing about the majority of causes? answer very little.
This does not save lives, it just increases road rage!
