Three Millfield pupils electrocuted by overhead cables during incident at Street school

AN investigation is underway after three pupils at Millfield School in Street were electrocuted by overhead cables at the weekend.

The incident unfolded at around 7.30pm on Saturday (May 3), with an air ambulance and a hazardous area response team among emergency crews sent to the scene.

Millfield has confirmed the three, who were taken to hospital by land ambulance, are in a stable condition and are with their families.

Avon & Somerset Police said a referral had been made to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), who will lead any investigation into the incident.

“Three students were involved in an isolated accident on Saturday evening where they sustained serious injuries from contact with overhead electrical cables,” a Millfield spokesperson said.

“They were supported by Millfield staff immediately and emergency services arrived within minutes. They are in a stable condition in hospital, with their families by their sides.

“There is no ongoing danger to others. The entire Millfield Community’s thoughts and best wishes are with them all.

“We ask for everyone to respect their privacy and avoid speculation. We are working closely with the authorities to investigate how the accident occurred.”

An Avon & Somerset Police spokesperson added: “Three people were taken to hospital with serious injuries. Their next of kin have been informed.

“Following the incident, a referral was made to the Health and Safety Executive who will lead in any investigation.”
