SCHOOLS in Somerset are dealing with flooding – which has impacted staff and pupils travelling to sites.
Several schools are fully closed today (January 28), while others are operating late starts as the county continues to deal with heavy rains of Storm Chandra.
Here is a list of notices currently released for Somerset schools:
- Ashlands CofE Primary School, Crewkerne: “Due to recent weather conditions and in order to ensure the safety of our staff travelling to school, we will be operating a late start. School will open at 9.30am. This delayed start will allow staff extra time to travel safely and ensure the site is fully prepared for the day.”
- King Arthur’s School, Wincanton: “Due to bad weather and road closures in (the) Somerset area, many staff unable to travel this morning. King Arthur’s will be partially open for year 7 and 8 pupils only today. Buses should be running normally (open year 7 and 8 to use).
- Kingsmead School, Wiveliscombe: “Due to ongoing local flooding issues, staff availability has been impacted. Additional cover staff are not available to support and therefore there is insufficient cover to safely operate for all year groups. The school will be closed to students in Year 9 only.”
- Stanchester Academy, Stoke-Sub-Hamdon: Fully closed
The updates come as Somerset continues to recover from severe flooding on Tuesday (January 27) following Storm Chandra.
