A PRIVATE school campus – and former holiday home of a prime minister – near Taunton is up for sale.
The Grange, at Kingston St Mary, is currently home to Taunton School’s International Middle School, as well as being used as an events space during the school holidays.
However, the International Middle School is relocating to the independent school’s main campus at the end of this academic year.
As a result, The Grange will be fully vacant by August 31 and is now being listed for sale.
Being marketed by Savills, the campus consists of three buildings; a main school building and two detached annexes used as boarding houses, within landscaped gardens and grounds.
The main building, a Grade II-listed Ham Stone property, was the former holiday home of British Prime Minister Sir Anthony Eden and dates back to the mid-1800s.
Sir Anthony, a Conservative, was Prime Minister between 1955 and 1957, succeeding Sir Winston Churchill.
His resignation came amid ill health, but followed controversy over the 1956 Suez Crisis.
The Eden family owned The Grange – designed by acclaimed architect George Gilbert Scott, who went on to design St Pancras Station in London – for many years, when it was often visited by their young nephew – future PM, Anthony.
