Former Open Championship golfer to train future stars at Taunton School

A TOP UK golfer will bring a wealth of experience to pupils in his new role at Taunton School.

Lee Corfield, who qualified for and played in The Open Championship in 2011, has joined the school as a golf performance coach.

He will help to develop the golf provision at Taunton School, providing specialist coaching as well as individual lessons and group sessions and support at tournaments and cups.

Lee represented Somerset, England, and Great Britain at every level throughout his career.

“I am absolutely thrilled to become a part of the Taunton School community,” he said.

“We have some amazing players here and I can’t wait to support their growth in skills and talents while taking the provision to the next level.”

The school also hired professional cricketer David Roberts in November last year who is now a performance cricket coach in the cricket department.

Lee put his degree in Professional Golf to use at Burnham & Berrow Golf Club after his exhilarating playing career came to an end, serving as the lead coach for Somerset Girls and working with the Somerset Seniors squad.

Before turning professional, Lee won the prestigious Lytham Trophy, multiple Nations Cups around the world, and the West of England Championship multiple times.

He also achieved an exceptional runner-up finish in the British Amateur Championship at the historic St. Andrews in Scotland.

Daniel Pettifer, director of sport at Taunton School, said: “We are very excited to have a player and coach of Lee’s ability and experience come and lead the golf provision at Taunton School.

“The quality of Lee’s coaching coupled with our new on-site golf simulator will make a huge difference to our students’ development.”

A spokesperson for Taunton School said it has grown its golf provision over the last few years, with its students playing in county and national tournaments.

The school has recently installed an indoor golf simulator generously donated by an Old Tauntonian to help players practice their skills and techniques.
