Woman sexually assaulted in Bridgwater as she pushed pram along the street

A WOMAN pushing a pram in Bridgwater was sexually assaulted.

Police said the incident unfolded in Northgate at around 11.40am on Saturday, July 6, after a man approached the woman, engaging her in conversation and asking her to go with him.

She became distressed and the woman crossed the road, but was followed and sought help from a couple to stop his advances.

Now, officers are keen to hear from anyone who saw the incident, as well as from the couple who the woman approached.

“The man is described as a white male who was wearing a black T-shirt with reflective strips, black tracksuit bottoms and white trainers,” an Avon & Somerset Police spokesperson said.

Sgt Nicola Brown said: “We remain in close contact with the victim, ensuring she receives all necessary support. Our investigation continues with further CCTV enquiries in the area.

“At this time, we are not aware of any similar incidents, and reassurance patrols were promptly carried out following the report.

“We are aware there were a number of people in the area at the time of the incident and would ask anybody who witnessed the incident or has any relevant information which could assist our enquiries to come forward.”

Anybody who may have witnessed the incident should contact police on 101, quoting reference 5225189129.

A 37-year-old man, from Kingston-Upon-Hull, East Yorkshire, was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault in connection with the incident and has been released under investigation.
