Watch: Police arrest drunk driver on M5 near Weston-super-Mare

A DRUNK driver has been disqualified from driving for 29 months after he failed to provide a sample of breath for analysis in custody.

Avon and Somerset Police have released a video of officers pulling over the man in the early hours of July 7 after he was seen swerving dangerously on the road.

Following a roadside test, the driver was found to be over the legal alcohol limit to drive and was taken into custody having been arrested on suspicion of drink driving and driving without insurance.

The man then refused to provide further breath samples for analysis at the police station, resulting in a 29-month driving ban and he was also ordered to pay a fine of £1,384.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson said: “Unless a reasonable excuse can be given, it is a criminal offence not to consent to providing a breath specimen when lawfully required to do so.

“The penalty if found guilty of this offence ranges from a minimum 12-month disqualification up to imprisonment.

“If you know someone who regularly drives under the influence of drink or drugs, tell us.

“Call 101, report online, or report anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

“If it’s happening now, call 999.”
