Warning to drivers after QR code scam spotted in North Somerset car parks

DRIVERS in North Somerset are being warned of a new scam in car parks.

North Somerset Council said it had received reports of fake QR code stickers appearing on payment machines in a number of car parks.

A spokesperson said anyone who scans the codes – used as a way to link to websites using a mobile phone camera – is taken to a “scam Ringo parking site”.

“Our officers are out removing these stickers, but please be aware,” they added.

“When we use QR codes on our parking machines, they are part of the signage and not stickers.

“We also do not use the Ringo car parking site. The website we use for all our parking is MiPermit.”

It comes after previous warnings after a similar scam was identified in the neighbouring Somerset district.
