VOLUNTEERS and staff members at a Somerset swimming pool have spoken of their ‘sadness’ after vandals damaged the property – warning someone could have been “seriously injured”.

A wall at St Michael’s Pool, in Minehead, was damaged when vandals threw a “large concrete block” over a fence, breaking a tile atop a wall.

The incident is understood to have happened some time between Tuesday and Wednesday (October 7 and 8).

“We’re so disappointed and saddened to share that someone has thrown a large concrete block over the fence, damaging the wall. This could have seriously injured someone,” a spokesperson said.

“St Michael’s Pool is used daily by school children, adults, and our community for swimming lessons, exercise classes, and leisure.

“Our small but dedicated team of volunteers, along with our cleaners and caretaker, work tirelessly — often early in the morning and late at night — to keep the pool running, clean, and safe for everyone.

“We’ve recently invested huge effort and funds into essential improvements to keep the pool open for the community. To see this kind of damage after so much hard work and support is incredibly disheartening.

“To whoever carelessly tossed this over the fence — please know that we’ve reported the incident to the police, and CCTV footage is being reviewed.

“We’re so grateful to our community for continuing to stand by us.

“Acts like this only remind us how important it is to protect and value shared spaces like St Michael’s Pool.”

Anyone with information about the incident should contact police on 101.
