Three arrested in Weston during police crackdown on anti-social behaviour

THREE arrests were made and others searched and offered support during a police operation in Weston-super-Mare on Tuesday (January 6).

Officers and PCSOs were out in the town centre as part of the Winter of Action – targeting anti-social behaviour and business crime.

Avon & Somerset Police were supported by groups including North Somerset Community Response, BID Street Wardens, Council CCTV, and Somewhere to Go.

A spokesperson said three arrests made: A man of no fixed address who was arrested and charged with shop theft, a man from Hayward Village was arrested for a public order offence after being abusive to mounted officers and PCSOs, and issued with a 48-hour dispersal notice excluding the man from the town centre area, while a man from the town centre was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence-related offences.

Elsewhere, they said several individuals stopped and searched, one vulnerable female safeguarded and offered support, while vital information and intelligence reports regarding criminal activity were obtained from members of the public.

“Our message is clear: Weston Town Centre is for everyone to enjoy safely,” the police spokesperson added.

“Anti-social behaviour and crime will not be tolerated. Expect enforcement if you refuse to engage with support services.

“With excellent CCTV coverage and proactive policing, persistent offenders will be targeted.

“Thank you to the public for your positive feedback – together we’re making Weston safer.”
