Teens arrested over moped thefts in Taunton and Bridgwater

THREE teenagers have been arrested in connection with a spate of moped thefts in Taunton and Bridgwater.

The teens, two males aged 17 and another aged 18, were in police custody on Sunday (December 21) on suspicion of burglary and attempt theft of a motor vehicle.

“Our enquiries are ongoing, and we appreciate the public’s continued support,” an Avon & Somerset Police spokesperson said.

Anyone with information about thefts of mopeds should contact police on 101, quoting crime reference 5225357574.

Police tips to prevent your moped or motorbike being stolen include:

  • Lock it up: Always use a high-quality chain or disc lock, even when parked at home.
  • Anchor it: Secure your moped to a fixed object or ground anchor where possible.
  • Cover it: Use a motorcycle cover to make it less visible and less appealing to thieves.
  • Remove valuables: Never leave helmets or personal items on the bike.
  • Install a tracker: Consider fitting a GPS tracker or alarm system for added security.
  • Park smart: Choose well-lit, busy areas and avoid leaving your moped in isolated spots.
