A LARGE collection of tyres has been dumped in two locations in between Yeovil and Sherborne.

The tyres were found dumped in country lanes west of Over Compton and at Checcombe Lane just off Marston Road near Sherborne.

Dorset Council Waste Services say the tyres could have potentially been fly-tipped by a scrapyard and are appealing for anyone with information to report it either to Dorset Council or to Somerset Council.

“If anyone, especially Sherborne and Yeovil residents , has any information about where these tyres may have come from, please contact us immediately,” a spokesperson said.

“Given the sheer number of tyres dumped, they’ve most likely come from a commercial operation.

“The tyres had distinctive cuts from the beading through the side wall, which is what scrapyards do to remove tyres from vehicles more easily.

“Material that has come from commercial activity cannot be accepted at any household recycling centre.

“Council tax payers will now have to pay for clearing these fly-tips, all because of the greedy actions of a few selfish individuals.

“By working together, we can help stamp out this illegal behaviour and keep our countryside beautiful.”

Anyone caught fly-tipping can be prosecuted and could face a fine.
