Popular Taunton café closed after overnight break-in

A POPULAR Taunton café is closed after an overnight break-in.

The Shed, in Goodland Gardens, was raided some time overnight, with burglars smashing their way in through a glass door.

“Unfortunately, we are closed today as we have been broken into,” the café said. “We will let you know when we will re-open.”

After the incident, Taunton Town Council said it would be contacting the café to “assess and carry out any necessary repairs”, including to exterior lights which may not have been working.

“We are aware of the break-in at The Shed in Goodland Gardens and understand how upsetting this is for the community,” a council spokesperson said.

“We will be contacting the owners of The Shed directly to discuss the incident. Our contractor will be visiting the site today to assess and carry out any necessary repairs.

“The lights (in the area) were previously repaired on May 22, and we’ve had no reports since then indicating they’ve failed again.

“While our staff do pick up issues during routine maintenance, we also rely on residents to let us know when problems arise so we can respond quickly.

“Thank you to everyone who has flagged this.”
