Police warning over rogue traders knocking on doors in North Somerset

POLICE are warning people in North Somerset to be on their guard against rogue traders knocking on doors.

Officers said they had seen an increase in claims people are calling on properties, citing overgrown hedges, cracked or broken rooftiles and more, and offer to carry out work.

“Often, these individuals will put pressure on victims to make an immediate decision on getting the work done and often for vastly inflated prices,” a North Somerset Neighbourhood Policing team spokesperson said.

“Police advice is that you should never agree to these types of works at the door.

“If you believe there is a genuine need for the works to be done, contact a reputable contractor, get a quote, and make a decision in your own time.

“If you are pressured into making a decision, then reject that quote.

“Always get at least three quotes to compare pricing to make sure the charge for the works is reasonable.”
