More than a dozen e-scooters to be destroyed after police action in Weston

MORE than a dozen e-scooters were seized by police during an operation in Weston-super-Mare.

On Wednesday (December 10), officers from the Weston Neighbourhood Policing Teams targeted privately-owned e-scooters – and removed them from the roads.

“This action follows recent incidents, including pedestrians being knocked down and, more recently, a driver whose vehicle was damaged after being struck by an e-scooter — leaving them with a costly repair bill,” an Avon & Somerset Police spokesperson said.

“Where appropriate, we’ve taken the opportunity to educate riders.

“However, with the rules around e-scooter use widely covered in the press and on the news, claiming you weren’t aware is no longer an acceptable excuse.

“We seized 13 e-scooters and one modified electric bike, all of (of) which will be destroyed.

“Privately owned e-scooters cannot be used on public roads, pavements, or cycle paths. They can only be ridden on private land with the landowner’s permission.

“Our priority is keeping everyone safe. Thank you for your cooperation.”
