Man from Bath arrested in connection with keyless vehicle thefts

A MAN from Bath is among three people arrested in connection with the theft of high-value vehicles using keyless technology.

In recent weeks, Wiltshire Police said it had received a number of reports of vehicles being stolen from driveways.

And in the early hours of Wednesday morning (August 21), officers arrested a man and a woman, both in their 30s and from Melksham in Wiltshire, and a man in his 30s from Bath, on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle. They have been bailed while enquiries continue.

Det Chief Insp Joe Saunders said: “We have been making the public aware of the increased reports of high value keyless vehicle thefts in recent weeks in a bid to ensure owners take preventative measures to help better protect their vehicles.

“We recognise the significant financial and emotional impact an incident of this kind can have on a victim – please be reassured that our teams are carrying out extremely thorough investigative work to identify perpetrators and news of these arrests is an example of significant inroads we are making into tackling this crime type.

“We continue to urge residents to ensure they know how to protect their homes and vehicles from criminals.

“The advice to keep doors and windows locked, and keys locked away in Faraday pouches may seem obvious, but many burglaries and thefts are opportunistic crimes so it is vital we don’t give them an easy ride.”
