Man charged with 34 shoplifting offences in Weston

A MAN has been charged with dozens of shoplifting offences after being arrested in Weston-super-Mare.

Officers arrested the man in the town centre on Monday (January 12) as part of proactive operations to tackle the problem.

He was later charged with 34 counts of shoplifting and is due to appear in court.

PS Joe Pitman, of Avon & Somerset Police, said of the arrest: “We have listened to our business communities and this is the latest sign of our continued commitment to deal with those causing real harm in Weston.

“We understand the wider impact these offences have on the community as a whole and we are working with our partners to support those who need and want support, but to also send a clear message that those causing harm will be dealt with.”
